Happy Birthday Keith

Living in Kutztown, I became a big fan of Keith Haring and his work. Today would have been his 51st birthday. The Pop Shop has birthday savings this week in the store.

Visit the Pop Shop to view the many items with Keith’s work.

Haring attended The School of Visual Arts in NYC and began making drawings in the subways on unused advertising panels between 1980 and 1985. He started to receive international recognition, held workshops for children, painted large murals all over the world, and produced imagery for many public service campaigns.Keith opened the Pop Shop in NYC in 1986. He saw this venture as an extension of his work, making his art available to everyone. The store stayed open until 2005, and now has an online presence.

Sadly, Keith died at age 31 of AIDs related complications in February of 1990.

His work can still be seen around the world in exhibitions and collections of major museums.
